The air is muggy and humid, my hair is contorted into the shape of a bird’s nest and I’m starting to feel the jet lag kick in. I step out of the Uber, throwing a real casual, “Terima Kasih,” at the driver and receive a warm smile right back. The security guard opens the glass front doors and I’m hit with a soothing, cool blast of air. It’s instantly relaxing and, in that moment, I know everything’s taken care of and I can just relax (which, funnily enough, is one of my top 5 favourite things to do in life). We’ve arrived at Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur and I already know I don’t want to leave.

Where the heck is this place?

A great question, my travel-loving friend. You’ll find Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur (herein referred to as Oasia) located in Malaysia’s famous Golden Triangle. Never heard of it before? The Golden Triangle isn’t anything like the Bermuda Triangle (thank goodness). In fact, it’s way, way better. The GT is KL’s main shopping and nightlife district, kind of like a CBD. To visitors, it’s the ideal place to stay as it’s nice and close to everything you’ll want to see, do and eat.

We loved the location of Oasia! It was an easy 10-15 minute walk to get to the main shopping area of Bukit Bintang, perfect for shopping. We were able to walk to KL Tower easily and catch the KL Hop-On Hop-Off bus easily too. There were some great eateries in the surrounding streets and it’s an easy walk to the Petronas Towers too. As first-time visitors to KL, we found it to be a really convenient location, perfectly situated in the heart of KLCC, allowing us easy access to all the things we wanted to do.

How do I get my sweet buns there?

We came from the airport and, after doing a bit of research decided Uber was the best way to go. Matt read a few articles online that suggested some taxi drivers run scams and public transport doesn’t work out to be that much cheaper, so Uber seemed like the best choice. We caught an Uber from KLIA2 to Oasia at around 5:30 pm and it took around an hour, maybe slightly longer, to get there and cost 90RM ($28AU / $21US). The return journey back to the airport, at 4 pm, cost 140RM ($43AU / $32US). You won’t be able to pay for your Uber via your account, you’ll need to pay cash so make sure you have enough on you. We didn’t have any run-ins with dodgy drivers asking for more than the price quoted by Uber.

Traffic in Kuala Lumpur is notoriously crazy, so make sure you prepare for this and allow enough time to get back to the airport for your flight out (the staff at Oasia can share insight on the best time to leave as it’s impacted by weather, the day of the week and time of day). It’s also important to note there are only two pickup locations at the airport, so make sure you’re at the right spot. There’s free airport wifi you can use to get your Uber, though I’d recommend you get a sim card when you arrive as catching Uber around KL is easy and affordable. Our sim card cost 8RM (with 200MB of data) and we bought an additional 1.5GB for 10RM ($5AU / $4US).

What makes Oasia so special anyway?

The concept at Oasia is Refresh, Refuel and Recharge, a lovely way of inspiring guests to take care of themselves, have an enjoyable stay and accomplish more. With rooms and suites equipped with everything needed to make them feel like a home away from home, they’re the ideal spot for guests to refresh the mind and body for both transit and long stays (seriously, the beds are so comfy!). The on-site restaurant, Kafe Oasia, offers all-day dining with an abundance of healthy options created using fresh, seasonal and environmentally responsible ingredients – the perfect way to refuel. Guests are easily able to recharge, spending time unwinding at the rooftop garden, swimming in the picture-perfect pool, high above the streets below, doing a workout in the 24-hour gym or borrowing a yoga mat for in-room practice or stretching.

What are the rooms like?

We stayed in a two-bedroom premier suite and absolutely loved it! Our suite was so incredibly spacious, light and airy, it felt like it was our home away from home. We immediately felt comfortable, so much so, we spent the entire first day chilling out in the suite. As I travel more I tend to look for hotel’s that make me feel at ease and that’s exactly how I felt at Oasia. We were greeted, in our suite, with beautiful fresh fruit, organic nuts and cold bottles of coconut water – the perfect way to refresh and a really lovely, welcoming touch.

The suite was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. At a spacious 78 sqm, it was very roomy, allowing us to really spread out and get comfortable. I loved the open living and dining area which gives you plenty of spots to sit together and relax, as opposed to being confined to sitting on your bed all day (a la traditional hotel rooms). We sat on the couch with cups of tea, watching movies and used the dining area as a workspace. The kitchen comes fully equipped and is a great size too, with a nice big fridge and everything you could possibly need to whip up a meal. There’s also a washer and dryer, which I love because it means you don’t have to worry about finding a laundrette or going home with a bag full of stinky clothes.

Both bedrooms were extremely comfortable and welcoming, with big black-out curtains so you can get a good night’s sleep. Both rooms came with a king-size bed, with one room being smaller in size with no en-suite and the other, the master bedroom, is more generous in size with a walk-through closet and en-suite. There’s a second bathroom, for shared use. I loved that both rooms came with a king-size bed, so it didn’t feel like anybody was missing out on comfort. The beds were extremely comfortable and the pillows were huge and cosy – I often struggle to get a good night’s sleep in hotel rooms, but even I got a fantastic sleep each night!

Another great feature was the master bedroom’s ensuite, with floor to ceiling glass, offering incredible views. In fact, the whole apartment offered great views. There’s so much glass that when you open up all the blinds you feel like you’re seeing and experiencing KL, even though you’re inside your suite. Nestled below KL Tower, you get to see it light up each night, throwing pretty colours through your window if you wish.

The more I travel the more I crave bigger rooms with those creature comforts of home, which is exactly what Oasia offers. The space is modern, warm and welcoming, with plenty of natural light and fantastic views of KL. Our suite was incredibly spacious, giving us room to really spread out and get comfortable, sit and relax together, then retreat to our own space when we needed. It felt like our own apartment in KL, giving us everything we needed to feel at easy and at home.

But, what is there to do?

You’ll love the gorgeous rooftop pool at Oasia, which offers some pretty spectacular views over KLCC and beyond. At night, the KL Tower comes alive with bright colours, so I definitely recommend heading up to the pool in the evening, around sunset, for a swim and to watch the lights come on – it’s a beautiful time of day up there. There’s also a spacious, fully-equipped gym on the same floor as the pool and, best of all, it’s open 24 hours!

There is so much to see and do around the hotel, you can take the short walk over to the KL Tower and head up to the top for the very best views of the Petronas Towers, KLCC and beyond. Afterwards, spend some time exploring the KL Forest Eco Park (it’s free!) then climb aboard the KL Hop-On Hop-Off Bus and take a tour of the main sites of Kuala Lumpur – it’s a great way to see everything then come back to the spots that really catch your fancy.

Exploring the KL Forest Eco Park

You’ll find a wealth of great activities, sights, and food within walking distance to Oasia, like the Petronas Towers and Bukit Bintang. If you’re planning on visiting the Batu Caves you can do that easily by catching an Uber from Oasia, be sure to ask the front desk team if you have any questions or need any information. We got a great city map from the team as well as some insight on great spots to eat (gotta love those local recommendations).

Talk me through the food situation…

We had breakfast at the hotel each morning, taking full advantage of the breakfast buffet. There was a great selection of breakfast options, with plenty of items suitable for vegetarians (yay!). We also tried lunch and dinner at the hotel too, just to see if the menu was worth recommending. I gotta say, I was really impressed. The focus at the restaurant is on providing delicious, healthy options and serving really yummy, fresh, good-quality food. I have a pretty sensitive stomach and find heavy, oily foods make me feel ill – the food at the on-site restaurant was so fresh, light and healthy it left me feeling amazing.

The menu boasts a really good range of local dishes and international favourites and the chef is happy to provide suggestions or whip something up to meet your dietary needs. You can order room service to your suite, a great idea because you have so much space to sit and eat or watch a movie in-room while you dine.

If you feel like heading out to eat, you’ll find plenty of great restaurants very close by to the hotel. Explore Jalan Ramlee and Jalan Tengah and you’ll find some great restaurants, cafes, and bars offering tasty bites and delicious drinks. You’re also a short walk to Bukit Bintang, where you can find a few great food courts in places like Pavilion – I love heading to local food courts as you tend to find really yummy food at bargain prices. I’d also recommend you visit Jalan Alor for delicious street eats and local favourites.

The verdict

We stayed at Oasia as a group of three – Matt, me and my mum. It was absolutely essential we stay somewhere central and the room be spacious and comfortable. Oasia offered us everything we were looking for and so much more! Our stay was incredibly enjoyable, thanks to the kind, attentive and friendly staff and the top-notch suites. We loved how spacious our suite was, the views it offered and the luxurious, comfortable vibe of the room. We also loved the location, close to everything we wanted to see and do, but tucked away on a little side street so we felt like we were secreted away from the world.

I would recommend Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur as a fantastic stay for anyone visiting KL! It’s great for those travelling as a family or small group, it’s fantastic for anybody visiting on business and it’s also perfect for those on a holiday, visiting Kuala Lumpur for the first time or on a repeat trip, looking for a really comfortable and affordable place to stay. When we go back to KL next I’ll definitely be looking to stay at Oasia again, which is pretty much the ultimate seal of approval. If you’re planning a trip to KL and looking for a great recommendation on where to stay, you cannot go past Oasia for value, comfort, and location.
