We speak to International Model and Fiji Airways Ambassador, Phillipa Steele, to get her lowdown on the best photo spots in Fiji, each boasting more Instagram potential than the next.

InterContinental Fiji Resort & Spa, Viti Levu

The InterContinental Fiji, tucked away on the island of Viti Levu, is the perfect place to kick-start your photo shoot. No corner of this 5-star resort is short of spectacular. One of my favourite spots is the SPA InterContinental, just a stone’s throw from the beach. Spend a day in a beachside cabana, listening to the waves breaking while treating yourself to world-class spa treatments. Hours of blissful pampering will leave you perfectly inspired for your Instagram snap.

Sawa-I-Lau Caves, Yasawa Islands

This is perhaps the most magical spot in Fiji and the kind of place that is guaranteed to blow your friends and family away. The Sawa-I-Lau Caves are made from ancient limestone and many Fijians believe they hold the secrets to the South Pacific. They are hidden in one of the northern islands of the Yasawas and are accessible on day trips by boat. If you’re feeling particularly brave, venture into the second cave. It’s only accessible by swimming through an underwater tunnel – but it’s a once-in-a-lifetime photo opportunity.

Natadola Beach, Viti Levu

Natadola Beach is a no-brainer for the social media-savvy traveller. With gorgeous white sand and sparkling blue water, it’s the kind of Fiji that doesn’t require a filter. If you want to add a local flavour to your holiday snap, then chance your hand at a beachside horse ride. Local villagers offer horse rides to visitors and the experience makes for quite the memory. Natadola is also famous for its surf breaks, so be sure to capture a barrel before you jet!

Sigatoka Sand Dunes, Coral Coast

At an awe-inspiring 60 metres high and covering an area of 650 hectares, the sand dunes of Sigatoka make for the perfect backdrop. Growing up in Fiji, the dunes were a constant source of wonder for me. You’ll be dwarfed by their height, size and power and it’s hardly a surprise they make for great pictures. My top tip is to head for the dunes at dusk, as the sun sets on the sand. It is the kind of photo you’ll look back on for the rest of your life.

Cloud 9, Mamanuca Islands

What could induce more travel envy than a postcard-perfect shot on Fiji’s only two-level floating platform? Located at the Ro Ro Reef amongst the Mamanuca Islands, Cloud 9 is surrounded by nothing but turquoise blue waters and coral reefs. Take a 45-minute boat ride from Port Denarau and spend your day basking in the sun, swimming in the turquoise blue waters and indulging in wood fire pizzas (cocktail in hand).

Tavoro Waterfalls, Bouma National Heritage Park, Taveuni

The Tavoro Waterfalls are breathtakingly beautiful – mother nature at her finest. There are three separate waterfalls but make a beeline for the third (and shortest) one – the Upper Bouma falls. This is less popular with holidaymakers, so you’re more likely to get that perfect shot without any photobombers!  The waterfalls are in Bouma National Heritage Park, fifteen kilometres from Matei in Taveuni.
