Where to stay in Paris: Hotel Le Pavillon de la Reine

There are few places in the world more romantic than Paris and, when planning a trip, you want to be sure you find the perfect place to stay. Digging around the internet trying to find one can quickly become intimidating and overwhelming (trust me, I know!) In a city so special, on the trip of a lifetime, you want to make sure your accommodation is special too. This is where boutique hotels come into their own! Matt and I recently visited Paris and had an amazing stay at two small luxury hotels. To help you plan your very own trip and find the perfect base for your adventures, here’s a look at Hotel Le Pavillon de la Reine.

Where is the hotel located?

You’ll find Pavillon de la Reine located in the trendy Haut Marais, the heart of ‘Old Paris,’ an area known for its narrow streets and lively nightlife. Dating back to the 13th century, Haut Marais is Paris’ oldest quarter. Spanning across part of the 3rd and 4th arrondissements, the area was the aristocratic district of Paris and is home to many outstanding buildings of historic and architectural importance.

We loved staying in Le Marais! The neighbourhood has a welcoming, friendly atmosphere and we felt safe strolling around the streets during the day and evenings. There’s a wealth of restaurants, cafes and boutiques nearby and we found it very easy to get around on the metro, using the free app maps.me to help us navigate without internet access. Pavillon de la Reine’s Le Marais location was ideal for our Paris adventures, serving as a great home base for us to retreat to each day and offering us easy access to all the major sites, plenty to see and do locally and a whole lot of history to experience as well.

How do I get there?

We flew from Singapore to Paris on a direct flight with Singapore Airlines. Our trip was actually broken up as we flew from Brisbane to Singapore, spent a couple of days exploring Singapore then went onward to Paris. It was a really nice way of breaking up the long flights and allowed us to finally visit Jewel at Changi Airport! If you’re weighing up which airline to go with, we had a fantastic experience with Singapore Airlines and highly recommend them. We love the amazing service, delicious food, comfortable seats and great entertainment!

On arriving in Paris, we had a private transfer organised to take us from Charles de Gaulle airport to our first hotel, Hôtel du Petit Moulin. After a 14-hour flight, we were really glad to have done it this way as the guesswork was taken out of it! Instead of figuring out how to get from the airport to Le Marais, we strolled out of customs and were met by our driver who helped us with our bags and got us to the hotel with no fuss whatsoever. The drive took a little less than an hour. Private transfer can be arranged through the hotel or you can source your own company if you prefer. Our transfer was arranged through Blacklane at a cost of around €86.

What are the rooms like?

In a word, GORGEOUS! From the moment we stepped into the hotel’s vine-covered courtyard, we knew we were about to experience something very special. There’s an air of sophistication and elegance all around that makes Pavillon de la Reine the kind of hotel I’ve always dreamed of staying at in Paris. Let’s dig into some more detail and take a closer look at all the little things that made our stay so wonderful.

We were very grateful to experience one of the hotel’s Junior Suites and I’m pretty sure the second we stepped inside, our jaws dropped! Each of the hotel’s 56 rooms is decorated distinctively, which means no two rooms are identical. What I love about that is your room feels unique, like it’s your own little slice of Paris. There’s a range of room types to choose from, ranging from Classic, Superior and Deluxe rooms through to a number of different Suites. Which one you decide to stay in will depend on your budget, how many people you’re travelling with and personal preference.

Our Junior Suite was, quite simply, stunning. We loved how spacious the room was, giving us different areas to sit, hang out, relax, change and store our luggage. At a generous 35 sqm, we took advantage of the separate walk-in wardrobe to hang up our clothes, unpack our essentials and store our suitcases. We also loved the separate bathroom/shower area, with the toilet located in its own room too. The bathroom area included a basin, large mirror, bathroom products, fluffy towels and robes, a double-door shower and bathtub. The shower was fantastic, offering great temperature and water pressure, with plenty of space to store toiletries.

The bed was HUGE! We sleep in a King size bed at home and this one felt bigger, somehow! Not only was it spacious, but it was also extremely comfortable with big cosy pillows you just kind of melt into. After a huge day of sightseeing, we loved being able to come back to a room like this and feel like we had our own apartment, almost. We could kick off our shoes, have a long, hot shower and then melt into the bed, watching a movie together before falling asleep. It was perfect.

Another benefit of the room was the two large windows, which we opened up to let in the fresh, cool air. On Sunday, there was a local man busking in the street, singing the most beautiful opera songs. It was almost too good to be true! We sat in the lounge area, sipping champagne and listening to his beautiful voice float through the windows. A room like this, for us, is something very special and not the kind of thing we would do every time we travel. If ever there was a destination to treat yourself to something unforgettable like Pavillon de la Reine, it’s Paris! We felt so special and it’s something that will stay with us for a very long time.

Let’s talk about the food situation…

I’m pretty sure you could spend your whole holiday at the hotel and feel like you had an amazing time because, in addition to the gorgeous rooms, the breakfast is something pretty special too. Each morning we would toddle down to the courtyard area to grab a seat in the cool morning air. You can choose from ground coffee or barista-made options like espresso or cappuccino. Amazingly, they even have soy milk!

Each morning, the two dining room areas are laid out beautifully with the most delectable continental breakfast. Highlights include an abundance of fresh berries, crepes, baked goodies like croissants and baguettes and a gorgeous selection of cold cuts and cheeses. It was the perfect start to each morning in Paris and, I have to say, the service was fantastic. The staff were so attentive, kind and helpful, making our stay that much more special.

In addition to the hotel’s great food, you’ll find no shortage of great spots to eat nearby. Le Marais is bursting with great bistros, including a particularly wonderful Italian restaurant located just down the street; Le Petit Italien. Not only that but you can stroll across the street to the park if you like and enjoy a little DIY picnic. We actually borrowed bicycles from the hotel, free of charge, and visited a few local stores to collect goodies for a sunny picnic along the Seine. It was bliss!

The Verdict

Paris is the kind of destination people spend years dreaming about. For many travellers, a trip to Paris is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and when that experience comes around, you want to make sure you do it right. For an unforgettable stay that ticks all the boxes, look no further than Hotel Le Pavillon de la Reine. The hotel and its rooms are exactly the places you picture when daydreaming about Paris (or is that just me?!)

We absolutely loved our room and couldn’t have asked for anything more. It was spacious, comfortable, luxurious, gorgeous and incredibly functional. Its Le Marais location makes the ideal base for your adventures, allowing easy access to the metro and all the sites you want to visit. Still, when you retreat back to the hotel, you’ll feel a world away. Le Marais has an abundance of boutiques, galleries, restaurants, cafes and bistros so you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food.

A boutique hotel with style, elegance and soul, we would gladly stay at Hotel Le Pavillon de la Reine again and quite happily recommend it to our family and friends.
