It’s important to get away every now and then. To take notice of that little voice in your head or that feeling in your gut telling you it’s time to press pause and create space to recharge. Fortunately, you don’t have to go too far from Brisbane to find the peace and quiet you need. Set among Queensland’s beautiful scenery, Dayboro is the perfect spot for a much-needed getaway. Here’s why Dayboro Cottages is the ultimate place to stay:
Where are the cottages located?
You’ll find Dayboro Cottages located on Mount Mee Road in Dayboro, a short 5-minute drive from Dayboro town centre and a 1-hour drive northwest from the heart of Brisbane CBD. While it won’t take long to get there, you’ll feel a world away from the stress of every day life, surrounded by lush rainforest and open spaces. The drive out there winds through beautiful Australian scenery, ensuring your troubles melt away with each turn.
Pro Tip: If you can swing a few days off work, try planning your visit on weekdays for better availability, fewer visitors in the area and the chance to make it a long weekend!
What are the cottages like?
We stayed in ‘Arbol,’ one of five fully self-contained cottages overlooking the beautiful Dayboro valley. It offered the perfect romantic and relaxing getaway, a quiet spot to rest and reconnect while still having access to plenty to see, do and eat.
The cottages are seperate from one another so, while the other guests are onsite and you may see each other going to and from the car or around the property, you’ll have as much privacy as you like. Each one feels like its own, unique spot that’s all yours to enjoy.
Fitted out with everything you’ll need during your stay, you’ll find the cottages to be a great size with a seperate bathroom and wide, open living, dining, kitchen and bedroom area combined that opens out onto a private balcony. The high ceilings make the space feel light and airy.
In the bathroom, Arbol featured a shower over spa bath, ideal for soaking away your worries and enjoying a little bit of spoiling while sipping on some delicious local wine. Generously sized, the cottages supply guests with soaps, shampoo, conditioner and a hairdryer so there’s no need to overpack.
The large bed was incredibly comfortable, dressed with warm quilts and plenty of pillows. Perfectly positioned in front of the large screen television, you may want to curl up in bed and watch a movie or two together before drifting off to sleep.
In the kitchenette, you’ll find a wide range of supplies for your stay including a microwave, electric frypan, toaster and kettle, crockery and cutlery, a small fridge and kitchen staples like coffee, tea, salt, pepper and milk. We visited a local supermarket to grab an easy dinner option for our stay even though there are plenty of great food spots nearby.
If you plan to do the same, just bear in mind the kitchenette doesn’t have a cooktop so choose a meal you can prepare using the microwave and electric frypan or plan to take advantage of the onsite gas pizza oven or outdoor grills!
Pro Tip: Pop into the The Old Storehouse and Ocean View Estates to stock up on charcuterie essentials so you can enjoy a platter and local wine on your balcony.
What is there to see, do and eat?
You could quite happily spend a night or two all warm and cosy inside your cottage, venturing out to meet the animal residents. Make your way over to the alpacas, say hello to the sheep next door and the little horses in the paddock, give a way to the goats and say g’day to the chickens and guinea fowl clucking around the property.
When it’s time to head a little further, you’ll be spoilt for choice with an abundance of great food, drink and activities to be had in the region from Samford to Woodford. Watch our YouTube video guide to the best things to do in Samford, Dayboro and Woodford here and read our guide to the best things to do here.
A few ideas to get you started include grabbing lunch in Samford, checking out the views from Jollys Lookout, enjoy a few of the regions beautiful bush walks and grabbing a bite to eat in Woodford.
Pro Tip: Many restaurants, cafes and attractions close on Mondays and Tuesdays so check opening hours if visiting on these days.
Great weekend escapes close to Brisbane don’t get much better than this! It doesn’t take long to get to Dayboro, which means you can easily head out there after work, spend a few days relaxing and be back home again quickly. The cottages are the perfect base for an adventure where you’ll feel a world away from everyday life with plenty of opportunities to immerse yourself in nature, eat delicious food and have a little fun together.
A visit to Dayboro Cottages would be perfect for anyone looking for a romantic escape with their partner or just some time for yourselves, to be present, rest and recoup together. If you’re an introvert in need of some me-time, I think you’d be very happy locking yourself up in a cottage for a while, spending time with the animals and super-charging your energy stores.
