Dreaming of a getaway that gives you time to recharge and unwind in luxury? I recently spent two nights out at Stanthorpe, immersed in the heart of Southern Queensland Country, at Alure. Here’s my review of this gorgeous boutique, luxury accommodation and a video to give you a feel of what it’s like to escape to this stunning part of Australia.

But first, watch this…

Location

It takes 2 1/2 hours to get to Stanthorpe from the heart of Brisbane city. That drive is made extremely easy by how beautiful the scenery is along the way. It’s easy to forget just how magical the Australian bush is and the drive out to Stanthorpe will remind you of just that. The further you get out of the city, the more relaxed you feel. You could be anywhere in Australia, so it’s hard to believe you’re a few short hours away from home.

Alure itself sits just outside Stanthorpe’s main town, around a 5-minute drive. I loved the location of the property because it gave me access to everything in the main town, like shops, cafes, bakeries and the grocery store. It also meant I wasn’t smack bang in the middle of everything, the short drive to Alure makes all the difference because you truly feel like you’re a world away. Waking up each morning, surrounded by nothing but bushland is a grounding, wonderful feeling.

The Accommodation

There are two luxury room types to choose from at Alure Stanthorpe and what’s great is, there are only three lodgings so there’s no chance of you feeling over-crowded by other guests. In fact, you may not even see them the whole time you’re there!

Two of the lodgings are luxury villas and one is pet-friendly, ideal for those who love to take their fur-baby on their adventures with them. The third lodging is an amazing luxury glamping tent that will totally change everything you think you know about camping.

The tent is a huge African Safari-style tent, built for all kinds of weather conditions, which means you’ll stay toasty warm inside during those cooler months and dry during rainy weather. The glamping tent is totally self-contained and includes absolutely everything you could need to indulge, relax and enjoy your home away from home.

Front deck, watching the sunrise.

You’ll find a huge, comfortable four-poster bed to get a good nights rest. There’s an ensuite with double-basins, a shower and toilet. There’s a heated towel rack and you’re set up with very yummy L’Occitane bath products to indulge in. It’s these luxurious, thoughtful touches which make your stay here that bit more special and indulgent.

There’s also a very comfy couch, an EcoSmart fireplace and ducted air conditioning. You’ll find a huge kitchen decked out with absolutely everything you could ever need, including a coffee machine, fridge, dishwasher and a host of cooking essentials. You’ll also find laundry facilities.

The front and back decks are the perfect places to eat your breakfast or settle in with a bottle of wine and a cheese platter to watch the sunset or sunrise. There’s also a BBQ on the back deck and a very enjoyable private jacuzzi. There are few things more wonderful than sitting in that outdoor jacuzzi at night, looking up at the night sky and spotting shooting stars.

Dining and Entertainment

The owner, Marion, has gone to a lot of effort to source the best local produce to include in a breakfast basket provided to each guest. You’ll find home-made bread, of your choice, as well as some very delicious home-made muesli, yoghurt, locally made berry coulis and juice as well as croissants, jams, spreads and milk. Waking up to this each day is a real treat and it slows you down, helping you to unwind that little bit more.

There’s plenty of places to visit for great food in the local area, including some might fine vineyards. Marion is more than happy to give you some information on great local restaurants, depending on what food you’re craving on the day. It’s a great opportunity to sample the best local produce and really discover the favours of the area, which is known for producing some of Queensland’s very best produce. You can sample amazing olives, ice-cream, locally made jams and preserves, cheeses, chocolates and much more.

Being so close to Stanthorpe it’s easy to duck into town and spend a bit of time wandering up and down the main street, stopping for coffee and sweets at one of the amazing local bakeries. There are also a few local pubs which put on a great pub lunch and serve a nice cold pint.

Waking up at Alure each day you’ll be immersed in bushland and wide open spaces and if you’re craving more, you’re in luck. Girraween National Park is a 15-minute drive away and it’s the perfect place to spend an hour or more exploring. There are short, easy walks you can take as well as some more difficult hikes, either way, you’ll be taken through some pretty gorgeous scenery.

The Verdict

I absolutely loved my stay at Alure Stanthorpe. It was so enjoyable feeling so far away from everything, while still being close to home, which makes it ideal for a weekend getaway or, ideally, a long weekend getaway.

Meeting Marion and her tribe of sheep, Maremma Sheepdog, pony and chickens, was really lovely. I felt so welcome and Marion made me feel like nothing was too much trouble, which made the stay relaxing and enjoyable.

I felt so relaxed and at ease in the luxury glamping tent and it as such a unique experience to stay there. Sometimes when you stay somewhere you kind of drop your bags then take off, at Alure I found myself wanting to spend as much time as possible there, because it was so lovely and really, really enjoyable.

Alure Stanthorpe is the perfect place for a romantic weekend getaway with your partner. It’s a chance to get away from it all and reconnect, recharge and relax in a very beautiful part of the world. With divine, luxury accommodation, amazing food and wine and plenty to do (or not do), I can’t think of somewhere better to spend a weekend with someone you love.

My stay is thanks to Marion at Alure and also the team at Alluxia, an online resource compiling luxury holiday houses and boutique hotels across Australia. Alluxia is a fantastic resource for holiday inspiration and no-fees booking. Find Alluxia here.
