Las Vegas is one of those places that completely surprised me. I expected flashing lights and casinos, and sure, I got that… but the city offers way more. It’s chaotic, energetic, and unforgettable… somewhere I’d go back to in a heartbeat. Here are five reasons why Vegas should be on your list this year.

1. It’s an affordable holiday destination
Vegas gives you total control over how much you spend. Sure, if you’ve got deep pockets, you can splurge on one of the themed suites at big-name hotels like The Palms or Caesars Palace, where luxury hits absurd levels. But for most of us, prices are refreshingly reasonable.
Four-star rooms on the Strip often start around USD 100–150 a night, and off-Strip hotels or Fremont Street spots can dip to USD 40–60. Budget travellers can still find deals under USD 30 mid-week. Drinks remain complimentary when you’re gambling—just remember to tip your server well if you want those refills to keep coming.

2. All the great things nearby
The beauty around Las Vegas is unreal. Red Rock Canyon is just 30 minutes away and perfect for a sunrise hike or a scenic drive. Hoover Dam and Lake Mead are within an hour, both impressive feats of nature and engineering.
If you’ve got more time, make the journey to Zion National Park or Death Valley, or do a Grand Canyon day trip or overnight stay. Most major tour companies now offer eco-friendly options and small-group trips with hotel pickups, so you don’t even need to rent a car.

3. It’s an adventure playground
Nowhere else lets you play this hard. You can drive a supercar at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, tear across the desert in a dune buggy, or try indoor skydiving. If you prefer air over asphalt, take a helicopter ride over the Strip or zip-line 400 feet above Fremont Street.
Shows are still massive here—Cirque du Soleil, magic acts, comedy, and residencies from stars like Adele, U2, and Usher keep the nights packed. Museums like the Neon Museum and the Mob Museum add a dose of local history when you need a break from the noise.

4. Incredible food
Whatever you crave, Vegas delivers. The buffets are back and better than ever, from the Wynn to the Cosmopolitan’s Wicked Spoon. You can chase that with a steak at one of Gordon Ramsey’s restaurants or sushi at Nobu at Caesars Palace.
For something casual, the city’s taco stands, ramen joints, and late-night diners are next-level. The food scene is so diverse now that many travellers come just to eat. My advice—try both ends of the spectrum, from high-end indulgence to cheap, messy street food.

5. The sights
Seeing Vegas in person is surreal. Bellagio fountains still stop people mid-stride, Fremont Street’s LED canopy lights up like daylight, and the Strip itself feels like a movie set. Wander aimlessly and let the chaos pull you in—you’ll lose track of time fast.
Between the themed hotels, the neon, and the constant buzz of people from everywhere on Earth, it’s sensory overload in the best way. Grab a drink, find a good vantage point, and just watch the city move.
Today, Las Vegas is still the world’s ultimate grown-up playground—wild, weird, and completely addictive. Whether you go for the food, the shows, the nature, or the thrill of not knowing what’s next, this city always delivers.
