A look at the week that was and a little insight into the #bloglife, sharing things I just can’t share anywhere else!
Highlights of the week
It has been a very busy, exhausting and amazing two weeks since we last spoke and I have a LOT to catch you up on! Let’s start where we left off last… Matt and I were getting ready to go to Chiang Mai.
The rest of the day went pretty smoothly. We get the house tidied up and ready for us to leave and, on Saturday, packed absolutely everything we thought we could possibly need into our suitcases. We even did a mercy dash down to the shops for last-minute activewear for the hiking portion of events (I’m glad we did cos it turned out we really needed it!)
I was feeling tense about going away, just some silly anxious thoughts creeping up on me. Funny thing, as soon as we got to the airport, all my anxiety melted away! The idea of leaving the security and familiarity of home seemed much scarier than it actually was. I just get nervous sometimes something bad is going to happen to me but, of course, everything was fine. Oh, except the flight, that was rough. We flew overnight and I just had one of those flights where you can’t quite get comfortable or get to sleep.
I ended up watching movies for 9 hours straight and, of course, felt like dirt when we finally got to the hotel and crashed hard. We met with our group that night and kicked off the tour properly the following morning. I don’t want to give too much away because I have a LOT to write about the trek and my plan is to share the whole story next week. Basically, it was really hard, hilarious and fun. I nearly cried and wanted to quit the first day!!!
Anyway, we got through it and came out the other side in a world of pain but also feeling really good. We had a great group with us and everyone laughing together about the hard stuff made it all the more fun! I’ve got so many good photos to share with you too and I’ll put together a vlog episode just about the trek. You’ll get to have a good laugh at my pain and some really funny things that happened.
After the tour wrapped up, we had three additional nights/four days in Chiang Mai. The first night we were both just exhausted, hobbling around the hotel room like zombies. We sprung into action the following day, though! I had pre-planned five Vlog episodes I really wanted to film, breaking down the activities into an itinerary we could follow. I was certain we couldn’t get through all of it but wanted to try anyway.
Somehow, we managed to do it all and then some! I had never sat down and planned Vlog episodes like that before, writing down editing notes, which camera to use, researching useful info on each spot that I could include when speaking to the camera, planning what shots I wanted to get and cool visual ideas. It worked though because we got so much great video content!
I just finished laying out the first Vlog episode and I’m so proud of it. Not that it’s an Oscar-worthy masterpiece, but because I know how much time and work I put into it. I’ve ignored some of my ideas and instincts on videos for a while because I was worried they were stupid but I’m trusting myself now and it feels amazing – it feels right! I can’t wait for you guys to see them. We wrapped up our time in Chiang Mai and flew back to Brisbane, landing on Monday feeling absolutely freaking exhausted. Again, no sleep! I got a little bit of work done then crashed out on the couch, in and out of sleep all afternoon. We caught up with work on Tuesday then headed down to the Gold Coast on Wednesday on a job for the guys at OpenTable. We visited three amazing restaurants to try the food, get some great photos and put together, ‘3 of the BEST places to eat on the Gold Coast.‘ We ate back-to-back hahaha dining at three restaurants within 6 hours. It was amazing and my only regret is that I couldn’t eat more.
Yesterday, we headed out to Brisbane Airport on a job! We filmed a really fun Vlog episode about fun, free and hidden things to do at Brisbane Aiport. Again, I sat down and planned everything so when we got there, we were super prepared and could just go from place to place, getting the shots I wanted to get, having an amazing time and enjoying ourselves. It felt so good and I’m so happy with how it turned out. Matt and I watched some of the footage back last night, it’s going to be a good video! It should drop next Friday night on YouTube.
Today is the first day I feel like I can just breathe and chill out. My to-do list is huge and I feel kind of like I’m juggling 10 balls at once, but I’m home now and can focus on getting one thing done at a time. First up, catch up with you here through TWTW then get through as much admin work as possible. After that, I’ll take some time to get the house clean (I’m a clean house, clean mind kinda gal and believe clean sheets fix everything!) Matt and I might go to the coast for a dawn swim tomorrow too – can’t wait.

Do you remember when Matt and I went out to Southern Queensland country to film a food video for the regional tourism board? Yes? No? Maybe?! Well, here’s the finished product! Not all of the work we do is for Little Grey Box, we’ve taken on a lot more freelance work recently. Some brands, especially tourism boards, love for creators like us to come out, make videos like this one then hand them off to them for use promoting the region. I love these kinds of jobs, they’re always fun 🙂
