The Week That Was – #28

A look at the week that was and a little insight into the #bloglife, sharing things I just can’t share anywhere else!

Vietnam

Matt and I spent last week exploring Vietnam as part of a media trip with Vietnam Airlines, Angsana and Banyan Tree Lang Co and Paradise Cruise. The trip kicked off with one heck of a surprise when we found out we were going Business Class, something we did not expect! We boarded the plane like giddy school girls, so excited for the experience. I’ll be putting together a review-style blog post about it soon with some photos so you can check out what it’s like (hint: it was awesome!)

The trip was hampered, a little, by bad weather. We arrived into Hanoi and headed out to Halong Bay just as a typhoon was arriving too! The Port Authority made the decision to cancel all cruises, which was the safe and necessary thing to do. The amazing PR team with us then had to work their butts off to flip our entire itinerary. Somehow, they managed to pull it off and we headed down to Lang Co a few days earlier than expected.

I had never heard of Lang Co before this trip. On our last visit to Vietnam we had flown to Da Nang and Hoi An, completely unaware Lang Co was so closeby. You guys, if you’re looking for a quiet destination in Vietnam, Lang Co is a great option. Again, I’ll do up some more detailed guides for it over the coming weeks but it’s definitely one of those underrated destinations worth looking into if you’re planning a Vietnam trip.

It rained the whole time we were there but that didn’t ruin our time! We swam in the rain, rode ATVs, drank Vietnamese iced coffee and made the most of the plunge pool at Angsana. The next day we checked into Banyan Tree and…. holy heck… it is easily one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. Matt and I aren’t fancy people at all and we don’t take things like this for granted so, stepping into our private villa at Banyan Tree, we both freaked out HARD. Words cannot describe how special and beautiful it is – we felt so spoilt! Again, full review to come. I think it’s a great spot for honeymooners or someone after a special stay like a birthday or anniversary.

We headed back up to Halong Bay and managed to get in a two day one night cruise. The weather cleared up toward the end of the first day so we got some gorgeous photos and video. Matt is working on an amazing video of the whole trip, which I know you are going to love. I’m also working on a vlog episode from the trip too – we had so much fun, I can’t wait to show you all the funny things that happened.

I just want to say a huge thank you to the PR team for all the hard work they put into organising the trip and adapting to some tough circumstances. I also want to say thank you to the brands who invited us on the trip, it’s a great feeling to be asked along to attend and we got some really great content that’s going to help travellers plan one heck of a trip to Vietnam! I got so many great photos and more detail than I have on other trips so I’m going to put in some extra work over the coming weeks and get ALL my Vietnam content refreshed and updated and add a whole bunch of new guides too.

What’s on my mind this week…

I started to write what was on my mind this week but realised I would rather share a quote that sums it up perfectly: ‘The Devil whispered in my ear, “You’re not strong enough to withstand the storm.” Today I whispered in the Devil’s ear, “I am the storm.”

News and updates

I have a great week coming up! On Tuesday I’ll be doing some filming with Tourism Queensland, sharing my beloved Brisbane. I’m really excited for it and can’t wait to see the finished product. I’ll be sure to share it with you when it’s ready. The following day I’m off to Singapore again. The lovely team at Singapore Airlines are flying me over on one of their brand-spanking new planes to check out the new Brisbane to Singapore Business Class experience (OMG!!) and attend a day of fun events. I’ll be sure to Vlog the whole thing so you can come along with me. My family live in Singapore so I’ll be staying on a few extra days to stay at my parent’s place, spend some time with my sister and enjoy a little bit of family time. I’m really looking forward to the trip! A huge thank you to Singapore Airlines for inviting me, too. I work with a lot of different brands and always get a little buzz when I get to work for SIA, they’re just delightful and always look out for me.
