A look at the week that was and a little insight into the #bloglife, sharing things I just can’t share anywhere else!
Highlights of the week
A big hello, hi and how are ya, from Kuala Lumpur! Yep, that’s right, I’m sitting in a white waffle robe in our gorgeous suite in KL writing this week’s TWTW and, wow, what a week it has been.
If you watch my Insta-Stories you would’ve seen me stressing out about all the things I had to do before my trip to KL. In summary, we found out about the trip on Tuesday and had to be ready to fly on Sunday. Phase one of our preparation was to panic, which we were doing a great job at, until, right after I posted my TWTW last Friday, disaster struck and sewage flooded our kitchen. Yes, sewage. So our evening was spent watching the world’s best plumber fix all our problems, followed by a rather unsavoury clean-up that took ALL NIGHT and into the next day.
Somehow we pulled it together in time and managed to get (almost) everything done in time. I didn’t get the chance to pre-prep any blog posts for this week but, rather than completely run myself into the ground and work like a madman, figured I’d give myself the week off.
We flew out of the Gold Coast and landed in KL with no troubles, even snagging three seats each to ourselves in the Quiet Zone of our AirAsia flight – we actually slept! We landed at around 5 am, headed to Tune Hotel at KLIA2, checked in and got in a nice nap and shower before hitting the Santan Food Festival at AirAsia’s RedQ Headquarters. We sampled a whole range of the airline’s new inflight menu, watched dance performances, saw AirAsia’s delightful CEO, Tony, having an absolute blast and met a whole host of international media – it was fantastic! I gotta say, the food was actually really good too.
Afterward, we met my mum and hopped an Uber into KL, checking into our incredible two bedroom suite at Oasia Suites Kuala Lumpur. You guys, this place is gorgeous. I haven’t stayed in KL before, but I can’t imagine there being anywhere better. I’ll be writing a full review soon for anyone thinking of visiting KL.
So, our week was spent exploring KL, shopping and eating a ton of food. We somehow ended up seeing way more of KL than we thought we would and dug really deep, scouting fantastic locations for upcoming blog posts and filming some great spots too.
It has been so good to see a place we haven’t been before and it was really great to spend some time with my mum, I can’t remember the last time we got to travel together. Tonight, we board a plane home back to Brisbane and get in super early in the morning. I’ll be catching some sleep, going to a friend’s 40th then working like mad all day Sunday on some super tight deadlines for travel writing work. Eek! #ALLthecoffee
News and updates
Some fantastic things came about this week! I’ll be doing some travel writing for Tokyo’s Tourism board this weekend (jet lag is NOT an option). We’re also going to be doing some work along the Queensland coast, shooting two videos for a local tourism board (cannot wait!) and I may be doing some voiceover work for a few TV Commercials for a company in Vietnam (incredible!) So much happening at the moment – it’s crazy busy, which is fantastic.
