A look at the week that was and a little insight into the #bloglife, sharing things I just can’t share anywhere else!

Highlights of the week

The biggest thing to come out of this week has to be a new project Matt and I have started! I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while now and the timing seemed perfect. You see, Matt and I have a ton of Brisbane content, cos we live here and all, but we can’t constantly share Brisbane photos and insights, because it’d be a bit off-putting to people from other places. I mean, how much Brisbane content can they reasonably be expected to care about? (Answer: not much). So, we’ve launched a new Instagram account: Brisbane Thug / @bnethug. It’s a really fun, light-hearted way to share the best things to see, eat and do around Brisbane.

We’d love your help growing it, so if you don’t mind giving it a follow and tagging a few friends, we’d really appreciate your help: You can check it out here! Now I’m finally free of my weird feelings toward Instagram, I’ve got all the time, love and energy to put into this – mostly because I love Brisbane so damn much.

Matt and I did a bit of home improvement this week – we hung a painting we’ve had for a little while now (finally!) and I got to work fixing a few things up, like sewing a new cover for our ailing ottoman. Over the past year we’ve both been learning more and more about what we can do to stop messing up the planet. We’ve tried our best to stop consuming so quickly, like buying new things just cos we’re sick of looking at something or feel it’s a bit run-down. We say no to plastic bags, recycle where we can, buy recycled goods where possible, cut down the amount of clothing we buy and re-use whatever we can around the house. It’s a learning curve, but we’re learning more and doing better each week.

We also attended the launch of Burger Urge’s new menu and absolutely stuffed ourselves full of food. I like going to those events because you get to properly meet the people you follow on Instagram, who attend those events too. This week I got to meet and spend the night with @getstuffedbrisbane – it was great! It was also our first time attending an event with the idea of capturing content for Brisbane Thug – it was good to practice, cos the content is a little different to what we do for LGB.

Oh! And we went to the movies and saw Guardians of the Galaxy II and LOVED it. So good! Today, I’m off to see my hairdresser for the first time about 5 months haha I’m honestly the worst client. But I think the lack of visits help keep my hair healthy – or so I keep telling myself. Annnnnd we had the two carpet pythons (big-ass snakes) that live around our house decide it was time for a visit. One of them dropped on my Mum’s car and set the alarm off, the other, much larger one, just watched us run around like idiots from way up high. Check the photos below to see the ‘little’ one… we named them Snake Gyllenhall and Reece Slitherspoon. Don’t worry, they’re friendly and non-venomous. They eat all the bush rats that would otherwise overrun our home.

What I learned this week

I spent yesterday with my Grandma, we’re really close and she’s had health problems for a little while now. The main issue for her is chronic pain she suffers from an assortment of back problems. I asked her the other day, looking back, if there is anything she wishes she’d done differently when she was younger so her health would be better now.

She told me she would’ve taken better care of her back, definitely, that the back-breaking work she did when she was younger has really messed things up for her now and she can’t do anything about it. So, kids, make sure you do all those silly things like bend your knees when you’re lifting heavy things, set your workstation up ergonomically and get any injuries seen to and treated! Cos those little things end up being very big, very painful things when you’re older.

It’s never too late to start taking better care of yourself mentally, emotionally and physically. Go for a walk each day, drink more water, put the phone down, get some sunshine and fresh air, get enough rest, don’t work yourself into the ground, make better food choices. Do all the things you’re supposed to do to care for yourself because they’ll make a big difference down the track.

News and updates

We are off to Newcastle next week! Woohoo! So be sure to keep an eye on my Insta-stories (and Matt’s too) for updates on where we are and what we’re doing. We’ll be producing a range of photo and video content for the trip, as well as sharing nice photos too. I have a couple of blogging friends who live down that way, Luke from The Backstreet Nomad and Elle from This Is Yugen, hoping to catch up with them while we’re there. We’re also moving full steam ahead with our plans for our New Zealand south island trip as we FINALLY booked flights this week! Cannot wait to visit again in early July.

Our Vietnamese TV spot airs on 12th May, I’m told. Apparently we can watch it on YouTube once it’s up, so I’ll be sure to share it with you. Also, I popped up in the Newspaper this week – check it out here.
