Planning a trip to Düsseldorf? You’re going to need to find yourself a great place to stay. You could spend a few hours hunched over your computer, looking at every single TripAdvisor listing ever created, anguishing over reviews like your life depended on it only to end up a stressed-out mess… OR you could just read this blog post and save yourself a whole lot of heartache. Here’s my guide to the very best place to stay in Düsseldorf.

Where to base yourself…

Whenever you’re travelling, it’s always best to base yourself within easy walking distance to everything. This is especially true if you’re in a country where you won’t hire a car, scooter or other modes of transport. If you’re planning on walking or catching public transport around the place, you’re going to need to be centrally based. This is also important so you can maximise the amount of sightseeing you do and minimise your travel/transport time. It’ll also help keep your costs down and your heart rate up!

In Düsseldorf, I’d recommend basing yourself within the circled area on the map below. This area is central to all the things you want to see and even some things you didn’t know you wanted to see! It’s easy walking distance to the Rhein, shops and markets located within the heart of Düsseldorf and some fantastic restaurants, cafes and bars too.

The best hotel in Düsseldorf

I was fortunate enough to stay at the Breidenbacher Hof in Düsseldorf and it is a hotel I won’t forget anytime soon, offering the kind of European luxury accommodation your dreams are made of. Honestly, it was like stepping into the pages of a novel. I absolutely loved my stay at Breidenbacher and recommend it as the best place to stay in Düsseldorf.

What are the rooms like?

I hope you enjoy feeling like a King, Queen or generally just an amazingly luxurious human because that’s what you’ll find at Breidenbacher Hof. The rooms here are very well sized, offering you enough space to spread out and get comfortable. There’s a huge bed you just kind of melt into and pillows you want to steal and take home with you. There’s also a great size desk, perfect for catching up on emails, as well as a cosy seat in the corner, a nice spot to curl up with a cup of tea and that book you’ve been meaning to read.

My room at Breidenbacher Hof… Gorgeous!

The bathroom is all kinds of wonderful, providing you with a well-lit, classic space. There’s a great size bathtub for soaking those tired legs after a big day exploring. There’s also a really great shower, complete with a small bench seat. Everything in the room is high-end finishing and luxurious touches, from the feel of the sheets underneath you to the L’Occitanne products in the bathroom.

When I walked into my room I couldn’t help but smile, it just felt like a European fairytale to me. It was exactly the kind of place I’d dreamed of staying when the trip first came up. It’s elegant, luxurious and comfortable without too much of that high-end faff that can, often, make you feel out-of-place in a hotel. By the end of my stay, I was really sad to leave as my room kind of felt like, well, my room.

Talk to me about the food situation…

I’m going to have to insist you pack some clothes with an elastic waistband because you’re about to eat a lot of amazing food. I don’t even know where to start, I have so many good food memories from Breidenbacher’s in-house restaurant, Brasserie 1806! Let me say this, even if you aren’t staying at the hotel, I’m going to have to insist you have a lunch or dinner at the hotel restaurant because the food is exceptional.

We were treated to insanely delicious meals and fantastic wines too, there was never a time I said no to something they put in front of me – it was all amazing. The breakfast was also something to behold, we’re talking a huge spread of cheese, breads and honeycomb as well as an a la carte menu to pick from. I want to describe it to you in more detail but the mental image of all the food is overwhelming me and making me very, very hungry. I gotta say, I think it’s one of the best hotel restaurants I’ve encountered.

Luxury is in the detail

Aside from the fabulous location, amazing rooms and incredible food, you’ll also find the service at Breidenbacher Hof is fantastic. The staff are so welcoming and friendly, they make you feel instantly at home and completely taken care of. Nothing is too much trouble! If you have any questions about how to get around, what to see and do, great food recommendations or even some more specific questions about Düsseldorf, they can help you. Each person I met was genuinely lovely and made my stay at the hotel very enjoyable, the hallmark of any brilliant hotel!

Just quickly, the hotel also has a great pool on-site as well two Finnish saunas and a steam bath! There’s also a fitness centre and a beauty lounge too, just in case you feel you need some extra pampering while you’re there (do it!!)

The verdict…

If you’re going to Düsseldorf, Breidenbacher Hof is my top pick for the very best place to stay. It offers everything you could want and need in a hotel and so much more! You’ll find yourself falling in love with the place, from the first-class service to the luxurious rooms right through to the ideal location and exceptional food on-site (did I mention there’s a cigar bar?!).

I’d recommend it as a great place to stay for anybody visiting, whether you’re travelling as a family, couple, on a romantic getaway or just looking for a gorgeous spot to base yourself. It’s a place I can’t want to visit again and will most definitely be staying at in the future! I wish I’d had more time there on my trip. Visit Breidenbacher Hof here.
