When it comes to visiting a city, one of the best things you can do is to get up as high as possible and take it all in from the very best viewpoint. This means rooftop bars, restaurants and cool rooftop lookouts. These places afford you a chance to take in the city from a new angle, giving you perspective on the place you’re visiting and allowing you to take some pretty amazing photos too.

1. Pinnacle @ Duxton

My favourite hidden rooftop in Singapore and an absolute must-visit for anyone, Pinnacle @ Duxton is not to be missed. Nobody really knows about this place, when we went it was completely empty, which is shocking because the views here are amazing and a photographers dream. The 50th story skybridge opens at 9am and only allows 200 people up per day at a cost of $5 per person. You’ll need an EZ-Link card to pay, which you can get from the MRT station. If you only put one rooftop on your list, make it this one. Find Pinnacle @ Duxton here.

2. Orchard Central Roof Garden

Another hidden gem, the Orchard Central Roof Garden sits on level 11 and 12 of Orchard Central. It’s free to get up there and you’ll find the garden a beautiful little oasis sitting high above the buzz of Orchard Road. It’s definitely worth checking out and can offer you some great photo opportunities in the afternoon and evening. Find Orchard Central Roof Garden here.

3. Lantern

Did someone say drinks? Lantern sits atop The Fullerton Bay Hotel and offers great views of the Marina Bay Waterfront and Singapore’s skyline. The best time to visit is in the evening, once the sun has set. You’ll find the place adorned with brightly coloured lanterns, pumping out killer cocktails and great music. It offers a great atmosphere and fantastic views to boot. Find Lantern here.

4. Ce La Vi

Probably the most well-known rooftop bar in Singapore, Ce La Vi (formerly Ku De Ta) sits atop Marina Bay Sands. It offers some of the very best views of Singapore, especially at dusk and evening when the city lights up all kinds of pretty. The drink prices are obscene, but it’s not so bad if you go for one drink and photograph the crap out of it. Find Ce La Vi here.

5. 1-Altitude

Another of the most well-known rooftop bars in Singapore, 1-Altitude offers the highest views of Singapore’s cityscape, including a very breathtaking view of Marina Bay. The best time to visit is definitely after dark when the city and bay come alive in a sea of bright lights. You can also use this viewing point to take in the light show that happens at Marina Bay Sands. A word of warning though, this is not a spot for the budget traveller. Find 1-Altitude here.

6. Potato Head Folk

For a more locals rooftop bar, head to Potato Head Folk. This low set building offers a few floors of culinary delights, with the 4th floor dedicated to an open-air bar. Think strings of glowing lights, comfy seating and cool mural artwork around the place. You’ll find the food here fantastic and get a chance to soak in life a little more local. Go for the rooftop, stay for the food and drink. Find Potato Head Folk here.

7. Rochor Centre

For a very locals experience and unique photos of Singapore, take a visit to the Rochor Centre. This place offers a very cool rooftop view with brightly coloured HDB Flats on either side. It’s a very locals view of Singapore and the colours of the buildings make for some pretty sweet Instagram shots. It’s being demolished this year, so be sure to check it hasn’t been torn down before you visit! Find Rochor Centre here.

8. LeVel 33

Another of Singapore’s gorgeous rooftop bars, LeVel 33 offers some pretty gorgeous views of the Marina Bay and surrounds. If a trip to Ce La Vi or 1-Altitude seem too touristy, but you still want those pretty water views, LeVel 33 is the spot for you. It’s quite unexpected then that this place is a Craft Microbrewery! Yep, that’s right, it’s one of the fanciest spots in Singapore you can sample amazing craft beer with a killer view. Find LeVel 33 here.

This place must be good because it was awarded Singapore’s best rooftop bar. You’ll find Loof on the top floor of Odeon Towers, serving up fantastic food and drinks and offering a very cool vibe in the evenings, perfect for unwinding after a day of sightseeing. The bar is super cool but not overwhelmingly hip, it offers you a local experience in a very pretty spot. Find Loof here.

10. Faber Peak

Take a trip to Mount Faber Park to visit Henderson Waves, then make the fairly short walk up the hill to Faber Peak. This place is a must-visit at sunset as it’ll offer you fantastic views of the sun going down over the water. You’ll also be spoilt with great food and drinks at Spuds & Aprons, as well as awesome views of Sentosa and beyond. Find Faber Peak here.

11. Kinki Restaurant & Bar

I absolutely love the food at super-cool Japanese restaurant and bar, Kinki. it’s just so cool! If you find yourself here of an evening, be sure to head up to the rooftop bar. They pump out some great music and serve up really good cocktails with a low-set view of Marina Bay and surrounds. It ain’t cheap, but it is a pretty sweet place to spend a few hours in the evening.
