Mystery holiday

It is safe to say that Matt does the majority of the planning for our holidays. He will spend hours, in between playing fantasy league, staring at holiday packages, flight prices, hotel reviews and lonely planet guides.

While I watch Teen Mom 2 and say helpful things like ‘Portugal sounds nice’ or ‘Mmm they both sound good to me. Whatever you think!’ he is hard at work getting everything organised.

In February I decided that he deserved a break from planning every minute holiday detail and, thanks to a close friend, had the idea to book an entire trip away as a surprise for him.

After finding a great deal on flights and accommodation I contacted his boss and asked if Matt could have the time off. Once I’d been given the green light from his boss and mine, I booked everything.

That night, I gave him a poster I’d made explaining that he would be whisked away in April for a 4 night break in a Mystery Location.

It hasn’t been easy keeping this a secret for the last 2 months because we share a laptop, bank accounts and spend 90% of our time together. There have definitely been a few moments where I have nearly blurted it out or given away a clue, but thankfully he still doesn’t know where we are going.

Next Thursday we will be packing our bags to go, and this is the hard part because how do I tell him what to pack without giving away the climate? If I tell him to pack shorts and swimmers he will know it’s a beach break, if I tell him to pack jeans and jumpers he will know it’s a city break to the North. I think the only way around this is to pack his bag for him and hope for the best.

My plan is to finally reveal the Mystery Location on Thursday afternoon when we arrive at the airport! I just have to hope that he loves the location I chose, though I don’t think anyone could be unhappy with a surprise holiday destination in Europe.

I’ve heard Matt’s guesses on where he thinks we’re going, so tell me where you think we’re going. Beach break or city break? Which country? Which city? Would you be happy or slightly nervous if someone booked a four day holiday for you? Of course you will be able to find out the Mystery Location on Thursday afternoon when Matt does! Until then, keep guessing!
