10 Clapham Common, South Side, Clapham, London SW4 7AA
From the outside, I firmly believe that Clapham Tandoori looks like a bar or club, with is bright neon lights and flashing sign I’m sure more than one person has walked in there expecting to find a dance floor and a DJ and instead been greeted by vegetable pakora’s and lamb vindaloo.
This restaurant was a very pleasant surprise right from the outset. With no reservation on a Saturday night, I wasn’t sure we would even get a table. But the very helpful and friendly staff told us it wouldn’t be a problem.
Once seated we were brought poppadums and a plate with four different chutneys and raita style dips, all of which were delicious. For an entrée we had the lamb cutlets they were so tender, packed with flavour and were just incredible!
For the main course we shared a chicken tikka masala and had a naan bread each. The curry didn’t live up to the high expectations we had set after enjoying the poppadum’s and dips and lamb cutlets so much, which was disappointing. I’m secretly hoping this is a one-off incident and I’m willing to try again, this time with one of the chef’s specials.
The best part about eating here was the ‘extras’ or ‘little touches’ as my Matt lovingly called them. With the bill we were brought two shots of Tia Maria with crème, chocolates and lollipops, slices of orange and refreshing hand towels.
I found Clapham Tandoori to be well-priced with delicious food and excellent customer service and will be returning again for curry attempt round two – stay tuned!!
